The trouble with villains
The thing about writing villains is that they have to be badder than I am. They also have to be characters in their own right, and I prefer villains who have just a hint of possible redemption, or at least something that makes you wish that they could be redeemed.
Mine was just annoying. There wasn’t all that much substance to him because when you’re writing for fun at 13 and not taking yourself very seriously you tend to think that just declaring someone a villain should make them detestable. I was happy with it as a teenager, but not as an adult.
It seems like most of the series or movies that I truly enjoyed, ever, had villains that were full of life in their own right. Read the rest of this entry »
