Finally, a PageRank!

Filed under:  Blogging  by:  User Imageadmin

I finally have a Pagerank. Not here, obviously, but on Nearly-Dr Ferox.

It took a while, and I made a few mistakes along the way, but it’s there now and hopefully it will grow with time.

My first mistake was not having a google sitemap to make it easy for the crawlers to index my blog. The second mistake was having paperpost. But I have learnt from such things and now have my reward.

So, bought some domains.

Filed under:  Management  by:  User Imageadmin

After reading lots of different things I finally bought two domains with GoDaddy and hosted them at Hostgator.

I chose to do this because of a special offer for Bloggeries forum members, where I can get $25 back after two months if I sign up to both places using the forum owner’s affiliate ID.

Googling for coupon codes from each company means that $25 will cover my first two months hosting, plus the cost of registering my domain names for a year.

I’ll show you my domain names when they’re ready to be unveiled to the public. But for now, they’re serisouly under development and I’m on a steep learnign curve figuring out how to work them.

Making websites to sell

Filed under:  Management  by:  User Imageadmin

For a while now I have been contemplating making websites to sell at a profit on sites like digitalpoint. I have two really good ideas that I’m confident I could create and establish, but I don’t have a clue where to actually purchase domain names or hosting, or how much I need or anything like that.

I’m also not sure how much I should be looking at investing initially, or what sort of returns I could expect. It’s so much easier starting with free blogs, it really is.

I will keep a record of my progress here, and maybe even show you teh sites as they get going.

Odd Spam

Filed under:  Blogging  by:  User Imageadmin

My war with spammers continues. I found this comment today:odd spam

Now, it almost looks like a reasonable, human comment. But it’s not quite right. I thought about it for a little while, but then declared it spam and deleted it. Here’s why

  • The ‘name’ of this commenter is ‘Online Casino’. Keywords as names are never good and not a sign of a genuine comment.
  • The gmail email looks spammy.
  • The website is probably spammy too, though I admit I didn’t check.
  • The comment has nothing to do with the post, and uses words oddly. In the same sentance it reads “it is”, which is quite formal, and “Thanks” which is informal. I would have expected “it’s” to have been used.
  • It’s a old post. There’s no way they just stumbled across it.

Better luck next time spammers!

Spam Calibre

Filed under:  Uncategorized  by:  User Imageadmin

I wish I was refering to rifles and shooting down spam-bots. No, i’m talking about how downright bizarre seem to be.

Let’s be honest, half of them are just a stack of links which aren’t even formatted corrently to appear as actual links, rather than code, if the comment got published.

Others are half a sentance in bold, with their link listed as their website. Just half a sentance. Barely three words.

Gibberish spam seems to be popular these days also. Perhaps they’re hoping that if their comment makes no sence whatsoever and I can’t understand it’s meaning, I’ll forgive the seven links contained within it and publish it hoping someone else will shed some light. Yeah right.

They’re all about poker, strip poker, casinos, lopez, bad credit, lopex playing strip poker with bad cedit and some guy who wants me to visit his make-money site all because he used to drive with a rusty muffler. That relates to canine pyometra how exactly? Dogs don’t have rusty mufflers, my anatomy book says so. :P

Oh, and le piece de resistance is that some of these spam comments I’ve been getting, are in French.

Merci les Salopes.
